Summary
Michael Western is a spy…or he was until someone put a "burn notice" on him.
Spies don't get fired, they get burned. When a spy has a burn notice on their head,
they can't leave the city they are put in, get a job, or pretty much anything. Since spies know quite a bit
of important information, they try to isolate the burned spy so he (or she) can't do anything.
Michael has no idea why he was burned and he's bound to find out. In the
meantime, Michael has to do with what he can in Miami, the city they dropped
him in. If he leaves the city, they'll kill him. Since
Michael's assets were frozen thanks to his burn notice, he takes on jobs
here and there that require his abilities he's learned as a spy. While no
one will talk to Michael thanks to his current status, he still has a few
allies. A trigger-happy ex-girlfriend, Fiona Glenanne (aka Fi), who is a
former IRA. A former Spy and friend, Sam Axe, who is also informing on
Michael to the FBI, but only tells them enough to get them off his back and is
careful not to give too much info. Michael's mother, Madeline, is also
located in Miami, much to his despise. Fiona keeps in contact with
his mother just to annoy him.
As the series continues, Michael keeps getting more and more closer to
the one who burned him. Just who exactly was it?
Opinions from the Webmistress
Seeing how season two for Burn Notice begins tomorrow (July 10th), I
thought I'd throw up an entry on it. Expect another entry for another American
series that has been taken up most of my time. *coughs*Bones*coughs*
Burn Notice is one of the summer series and it's the only summer series
I watch. Sadly, it's not a very long series (season one had only 12
episodes and it looks like season two will only have 13). Are any
summer series very long? I don't really think so. BN has a different
feel to the series than any other series I have ever watched. It's
fun, but with lots of action. The humor it has is very well placed
so it doesn't kill the action and at the same time, doesn't make it
where it feels like all you are watching is action. Thanks to Michael's
narration, you may pick up a few spy tips. ^_~
The three main characters are Michael (of course), Fiona, and Sam,
with constant appearances/nagging of Madeline, Michael's mother.
I love all the characters, but because I'm a female, I tend to have
a strong love for Fiona. She totally kicks major ass. She's feminine,
but can totally handle her own. Violence is a turn on to her and though
it may not be noticeable to Michael, she does have feelings and a loyalty to
him. Sam…he keeps the humor going on. He's an alcoholic and even
though he's informing the FBI about Michael, you can tell he has a
sense of loyalty to him as well.
In conclusion, BN is just one of those shows you just gotta watch
during those hot summer nights. I totally recommend it. ^^
